Martin Moloney

Seaman Martin Moloney of the Royal Naval Reserve was born in 1877 in County Clare, Ireland, the son of Martin and Ellen Moloney. When he married Bridget Shanahan on 22nd September 1896 in Kilrush, he was working as a fisherman. They had four children, all boys.  Their eldest son Michael was killed in action in April 1916 when he was only 18 years old.
Martin Moloney had been awarded the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal before he died. At the time of his death his wife Bridget was living in Quilty West, Miltown Malbay, Clare.
His grandson Joe Moloney, son of Patrick Moloney, was one of the first direct descendants of the men who lost their lives on the Laurentic to take part in the annual commemoration events in Donegal, organised by the Ulster Canada initiative.1901CensusMartinMoloney
