Violet Kerr’s letter to her brother Fred telling of the death of their brother-in-law, George Gill. Written on the day that news came to George’s wife Blanche from the Admiralty. Blanche was newly pregnant at the time, their child would never see or know his father. A little over a year later, Fred would receive another letter, this time from his mother. This letter would tell him that Blanche too had died, leaving her son an orphan.
